Can I then still get medical treatment if I did not have travel insurance? The answer to this question depends on where you are. A few countries have reciprocal agreements with the UK, this means that you get the same attention and treatment as citizens of this country, without the need for insurance.
These include EU countries, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece,Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, the Republic of Ireland and Sweden as well as in Australia, Barbados, New Zealand, Romania and Russia. However, it shall not include popular destinations such as Switzerland, Turkey and the United States.
You must consider that the treatment can not be free. The regulations do not cover the cost of the home if you are seriously ill or injured.
What is the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)? TheEuropean Health Insurance Card (EHIC) provides access to free or reduced-cost medical care within the European Union. It replaces the E111 form in January 2006. You can find more information from the Department of the Ministry of Health website.
I have travel insurance with my credit card. Does this mean I do not need travel insurance? Travel insurance covers a rule, if you are seriously injured in an accident while traveling.
